Lab Exercises,
Lab schedule (subject to change, especially due to weather)Here's a little essay I wrote about the nature of Environmental science. Have a look, it is "required reading."
Survivorship lab: we were unable to collect data in the field, however you should still access the surivorship data and graph available as an Excel file (by clicking here) . Ask if you have questions about the topic.
You will write a lab report on an original experiment involving toxicity in Daphnia. Follow the format of a formal lab report (general information: click here) . Here is a sample lab report: cover page , page 1 , page 2 , page 3 , and page 4 . Contact me if you still have questions.

Announcements Please visit the Web site for the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Authority . When we visit, dress for the weather (it can get quite windy up on the trash heap!).
Inclement weather forced us to abandon our cemetery trip, but you can still learn about survivorship...see Course Materials above .
EXAM I WILL BE ON TUES. FEB. 11 in the usual lecture time/place (VSC 184). You will need to bring only a pen/pencil. The exam will cover topics in chapters 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, & 13.
Links of Interest A previous NASC 120 class designed a nature trail for the Carlson-Kuyper Field Station . The trail was then built as an Eagle Scout project. Check out the Station web pages; we'll be visiting there including work on the Maple Syruping operation .
You may wish to access these old exams: exam I and exam II from my Ecology class a couple years ago. These demonstrate the style/format of my questions, etc.
NEW! -- you may also access Exam I from this course (2002)
Here's an AWESOME photo of fire ecology , taken in the Bitterroot National Forest in Montana on August 6, 2000 by John McColgan, a fire behavior analyst from Fairbanks.
