Holiday Greetings From the Fyfe Family!

Welcome to the second edition of the Fyfe Family Christmas Home Page. This years theme is "Inspiration". Come and find out what has inspired the Fyfe family this year!

Once again our family vacationed in Colorado for a week in July. This was our third year making the trip to Nederland, a small town nestled in the mountains outside of Boulder. The mountains have been a wonderful place for our family to re-charge our batteries and to search for inspiration. For a few more pictures of our vacation see our vacation page.

"I lift up my eyes to the hills. From whence does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made the heaven and the earth."

"Let our Lord command his servants here to search for someone who can play the harp."
Rachel has inspired us in many ways this past year, but her crowning achievement has got to be with the violin. After weeks of dismissing Rachel's interest and requests for a violin as a "passing fancy", we finally relented. Rachel started taking violin lessons in June and has amazed us ever since. Her current repotoir includes variations of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, The A major scale, and her newest number Lightly Row. While she has amazed us with her quick progress, her violin practice has brought out another feature that is not quite so lovable. Rachel, like her Dad, does not deal well with tasks she doesn't know how to do well and is easily frustrated learning something new. It is not always fun adding new wrinkles to Rachel's practice, but invariably after a few days of frustration, there is a breakthrough and Rachel amazes (and inspires) us once again.
"They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary"

Fortunately, Abby does tire and has slept well for most of her 1 1/2 years. When she is awake, however, she spends most of her time wearing her parents out! When she isn't dashing from room to room leaving a trail of empty toy boxes, stuffed animals, and books in her wake she is moving chairs and stools to climb on the table and counter. Luckily, through her overly protective parents and her own coordination, there has only been one trip to the emergency room (split lip) this past year and no permanent scars. At this point we aren't always sure what inspires Abby, but we are watchful when the inspiration strikes!

"Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven"
Our children continue to be a source of inspiration in ways other than those mentioned above. Rachel is now 4 1/2 and is active in Awanas (church group), Swimming and Gymnastics at the Y, and Pre-school (more on this later). Her Dad is also happy to report that Rachel completed her first road race this year - a 1 mile race she walked with her Mom! Although quiet and shy at times, her teachers report that she is easy going and pleasant in her activities. She must save all her traumas for her Mom and Dad!

Abby does have her relaxing moments. She will sit still for a good story (or 30!). She loves to go for stroller rides, and lately has taken to "Cuddle lil bit". All in all we are truly grateful to have such happy, healthy children.

Stephen continues to teach, and hopefully inspire students at Midland Lutheran College, but this year he is not the only teacher in the family. Lisa has taken on the responsibility of teaching Rachel some pre-school lessons. Lisa and two other moms share responsibility. The kids meet once at week at one of the homes for lessons and fun. It is unclear who enjoys this setup more, Rachel or her Mom.

Lisa also keeps busy with her women's groups at church, and Stephen is proud to announce that Lisa has actually begun to run a little bit. She finished her first race where she ran instead of walked on Thanksgiving day!

May the Lord bless (and inspire!) you this holiday season!
