[The Fyfe family in front of "El Castillo" in Chichen Itza]

Welcome to the 10th edition of the Fyfe Family Christmas web page! We hope you enjoy some photos from our four month stay in Merida, Mexico at the beginning of the year. Our trip included fascinating trips to ancient Mayan ruins, wonderful weekends on the Caribbean, and educational visits to area villages.

For 2 days during the spring equinox the sun rises and comes through the doorway of these ruins at Dzibilchaltun. We had to get up at 5:00 AM, but it was worth it!

A Caribbean sunset on the island of Cozumel

The girls helping a hammock maker in the village of Tixkokob. This person made Rachel's hammock.

Abby's birthday Pinata!

The Mayan basket lady in the village of Kinchil. She didn't speak Spanish - only Mayan.

After days and days of driving, this sign brought shouts of joy... and a little sadness because our journey was just about done.

Upon returning to Iowa, we jumped almost immediately back into our old lives (We still aren't sure if that was a good thing or not). Rachel and Abby went back to school for the last month of classes, and 2 days after returning they started playing softball. Stephen went to the conference track meet the first weekend we were home. But even though we quickly returned to our old activities, our trip has always been on our minds and the memories linger. As the snow begins to fall here in Iowa and the temperatures drop, we talk often about those warm Mexican days!

To keep us busy over the summer, we added a new member to our family in June. To help give us little reminders of our trip to Mayan country, we named her Maya!

We hope you enjoyed looking at just a few of our pictures from our adventure. For those of you who haven't seen all of them, we would love to show them to you! One thing that we learned from the trip, and again from the series of natural disasters that occurred this year, is that the quote we include every year is needed now more than ever. Please...
