Happy holidays from the fyfe's

Seasons Greetings from our home to yours.

We hope that your 2001 was an enjoyable year.

We had a lot going on, so we'll try to fill you in on our last 12 months.

After Christmas '00, we got going and made a road trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to visit Stephen's brother, Paul (and Mari, Nick & Mija).  It was two long days of traveling to get there, but a fun adventure for our family. We did a lot of sight-seeing and enjoyed scenery that is so different from Iowa.
A highpoint of the trip was going down hill skiing.  Rachel and Abby got to go to their first ski school class one day.  Abby spent a lot of  the time on the ground, but had a smile on her face when class was over.  Rachel made several trips down the bunny hill unassisted.  They are both anxious to try skiing again.  A couple of days later, Stephen and I spent New Year's Day on the ski slopes.

By the middle of March we were tired of bundling up and going outside to play (in the snow that would just not go away), so the Mom and Dad of this family became ponies and provided hours of entertainment for their kids.

Abby celebrated her 5th birthday in April.  She now goes to kindergarten 2 1/2 days a week.  The days that she is not in school is spent going to swimming lessons, art class, playing with her little sister and friends, reading books, or playing on the computer.    She still experiences stiffness in her back and legs, but the swimming has made her legs much stronger.  We are working with a Doctor from Mayo Clinic to treat her "rigid spine syndrome".

In April, we decided that it would be easier on our backs and knees if we would go to Grandma's farm and let the kids go for a ride on a real pony!  Rebekah had to settle for the rocking horse because the big horse was a little too wild for such a little girl.  Although, don't tell that to Rebekah -  She is a real go-getter.  Her favorite things to do are climb, climb, read books and climb.  One of her favorite expressions is: "NO - "Bekah do it".

"Gotta Go For It" - That was our decision when the opportunity came up to go on a 15 day trip to Europe.  It was actually a "business" trip for Stephen, and Lisa just got to tag along.  We visited some of the cities where Central College has International Programs:  Paris, London, Granada and Vienna.
We were fortunate enough to have Grandparents who were willing to come to Pella and stay with the girls.  We kept in contact with them almost daily via e-mail - which was very comforting for all of us.

The picture above is of the Eiffel Tower viewed from the Seine River.  It was kind of interesting to see the Statue of Liberty in Paris!
The picture to the left is at Buckingham Palace in London.
It was a fabulous trip and we'd love to tell you more about it.

Going, Going, Gone!  That's what happened to the hair.  Rachel and Abby both decided to get a major change in their hairstyle this summer.  They had heard about the "Locks of Love" program and thought it sounded like a nice idea to send their hair off to have it made into wigs for children.  We think the new styles look great, but Rachel is already growing her hair out!

Rachel is now in 2nd grade.  She is still playing the violin (her parents are no longer much help with practicing because this is one area where she actually may know more than they do).  This summer she participated on a t-ball team and this fall she was on a soccer team coached by her Dad.   Reading is one of her favorite pass-times.

Some of our other activities this past year:

The annual camping trip

First day of school

A soggy soccer team

Halloween Princesses

We hope you liked going through the highlights of our last year.  As always:

"Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can."
