SNAPSHOTS OF OUR LIFE

--- January 2nd - Rebekah's Baptism
--- February 19 - Honda dies
The first vehicle that we purchased together, and which served us well for over 10 years died suddenly and left Stephen stranded on the way to a race in Des Moines. For the rest of the school year Stephen had to find alternate transportation to school every day. Look at some of the ways he tried to get to work!
--- April 2 - Abby's 4th Birthday
Abby has spent many hours of her fourth year in several different doctor's offices trying to find out why she has a stiff back (she can't touch her toes or do a forward roll). Almost a year later, the only thing the doctors can tell us is that her condition has them mystified. We are thankful that most "big bad gravely serious" causes have been eliminated. She seems to be making slow progress with daily stretching and weekly physical therapy, and although she has some activities that she struggles with she can keep up with kids her age for the most part.
--- May 11, 12, and 13 - Tulip Time
Rachel and Abby got to be in some of the parades this year so we had to find some Dutch costumes for them to wear. This is a good time to visit if you like parades and don't mind crowds. Our house is always open!
--- May 17 - Rachel's Recital
Rachel continues to play the violin. She is now on her fourth teacher in four years. She seems to like the one she has now, so we hope he sticks around for a while.

--- Summer - Vacation???
What vacation? We did take a few short trips to see Lisa's brother Ed run his first marathon and to Stephen's family reunion in Chicago. Abby really did like watching Ed run the marathon! She just didn't want to get her picture taken.
--- July 10 - Rachel's Birthday
Rachel turned 7 this summer. As far as we are concerned she alternates between growing up too quickly and not growing up fast enough! Depends on the day! She got to play soccer for the first time this fall. When she wasn't picking blades of grass, doing cartwheels, or watching the game on the other field, she had some good moments!
--- August 22 - First Day of School
Rachel is in first grade this year enjoys school very much. Abby could not take another year of staying home with Mom while Rachel went to school so she goes to preshool 2 days a week. The two of them get along most of the time, but we have discovered with the run of snow days this month how important school time is - for everyone!
--- September 27 - Rebekah's first birthday
Rebekah had her first birthday in September. It looks like she will be a light weight - she is down on the charts for height and weight. She makes up for it though with smiles and whatever noises will get your attention. Lisa is very ready for her to learn a few more words other that NO! Rebekah had a very funny reaction to the candle on her cake - she wasn't quite sure what to make of it, but she didn't like it!
--- October 22 - Chicago Marathon
Stephen ran the Chicago marathon this year. He was lucky to have his brothers Paul and Tim to run with him. His brother John and Lisa's brother Ed were around also cheering them on.
--- October 31 - Halloween
After a year off, Lisa returned to her costume making. With all the time she spends making the costumes, its a good thing the girls like playing dress up! Do you recognize Princess Jasmine, Raja, and Abu?
We hope you enjoyed our snapshots. It was a good year, with another to follow.

Goodbye for another year! As always:
"Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can."
