Moravian Mathematics Project Checklist

Please attach this paper to your project when you turn it in. This list will be used to grade your assignment, and will be returned to you with comments. Your final write up should be "word processed" to the extent possible.
Keep a copy of your paper for your own reference. Also keep copies of all your "scratchwork" for the project, in case it needs to be referred to later.
Use this checklist as a guide when writing the assignment.

Does this paper:

  1. Address the reader as one who has the same background as you (a Calculus student), but has not seen the project description?
  2. Describe the background of the situation and explain the problem(s) to be solved before giving solutions?
  3. Give a precise and well organized explanation (including enough calculations and details so the reader can reconstruct your work with minimal effort) of how the problem was approached and the solution found?
  4. Give supporting data (numerical, graphical, etc.) to augment explanations and assertions?
  5. Clearly label diagrams, tables, graphs, or other visual representations of the mathematics?
  6. Define all variables, terminology, and notation used?
  7. Clearly state the assumptions which underlie the use of formulas and theorems, and, when these are not commonly known, explain how a formula is derived, or where it can be found?
  8. Give acknowledgement of any outside sources (outside the other members of the team and your instructor)?
  9. Use correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure, writing in a narrative fashion?
  10. Contain correct mathematics?
  11. Solve the problems that were originally asked?
